Other groups that the Girl Scouts have worked with are now putting the kibosh on the organization due to their left-wing teachings, because those teachings aren’t what Girl Scouts is supposed to be about.
Who is severing ties? The Archdiocese of Kansas City has sent notice that they are severing ties with the Girl Scouts and will now support American Heritage Girls, a Christian-based organization much like the Girl Scouts but without the leftism or Planned Parenthood. From the Kansas City Star:
“I have asked the pastors of the Archdiocese to begin the process of transitioning away from the hosting of parish Girl Scout troops and toward the chartering of American Heritage Girls troops,” Archbishop Joseph F. Naumann said in a statement released Monday.
“Pastors were given the choice of making this transition quickly, or to, over the next several years, ‘graduate’ the scouts currently in the program. Regardless of whether they chose the immediate or phased transition, parishes should be in the process of forming American Heritage Girl troops, at least for their kindergartners, this fall.”
Some parents react. Some parents aren’t very happy about the switch because they’ve been involved in Girl Scouts for a long time. It’s interesting because Planned Parenthood, the abortion corporation, has partnered up with Girl Scouts — and abortion is absolutely against the Catholic religion. From KSCS:
The action has angered some Girl Scout leaders and parents in the archdiocese, who say Girl Scouts is a respected program that helps raise strong girls who become good stewards. They call the move punitive and unfair and say it treats girls in their troops like second-class citizens.
“This is frustrating; parents are very irritated,” said Maria Walters, a former Girl Scout leader in the archdiocese and mother of two Girl Scouts. “I feel we should all be together as one in the community. This does nothing but divide us.”
Why this matters? It’s about time people started rejecting Girl Scouts. All scouting programs should be non-political and not teach kids involved a one-sided view of the world. The point of the Scouts wasn’t to teach girls about Planned Parenthood or any left-wing progressive causes. No religious entity should be involved with any organization that pushes issues that are against a core set of their own beliefs.
It’s completely understandable the Church would think this way. They aren’t leaving the girls hanging; they are offering a better solution that is more aligned with their own teachings and beliefs. This is something they should have done the minute Girl Scouts decided the horrific Planned Parenthood (an organization that victimizes young teen girls) would make a good partner.
